David Owori (23 September 1998 – 5 August 2026) was a prominent Ugandan professional footballer who served as the captain of SC Villa and was a utility player for the Uganda national team setup. Affectionately nicknamed "Colgate," he tragically passed away at the age of 27 following a brutal street assault and robbery in Kampala.Tragic PassingOn the night of August 4, 2026, Owori was ambushed by a group of unidentified thugs near his home in the Makindye suburb of Kampala. After reportedly resisting the theft of his mobile phone and personal items, the assailants struck him in the head with interlocking paving stones and left him unconscious. He was rushed to Case Clinic, where he succumbed to severe and irreversible brain injuries the following morning, August 5.His sudden death sparked national mourning, prominent tributes in the Parliament of Uganda, and widespread public outrage regarding rising street violence in the capital, coming just weeks after the similar killing of rugby star Sydney Gongodyo. In his honor, SC Villa announced that his No. 15 jersey would be officially retired.
