This newborn rabbit quickly caught the attention of millions on social media, thanks to its unusual appearance. In particular, the white fur beneath its nose resembles a small beard, and combined with its calm facial expression, it reminded many of an old kung fu master. Due to this resemblance, its photos rapidly spread across thousands of posts. In reality, this appearance is completely natural. The white fur pattern on the rabbit's face and the structure of its eyes give it a much wiser and more serious expression than its age suggests. Since the human brain is prone to recognizing familiar facial expressions and patterns in objects, this phenomenon is called "pareidolia." Seeing shapes in clouds or recognizing human faces in rocks are examples of the exact same psychological effect. Interestingly, this rabbit does not belong to any special breed. What made it so popular was purely a random fur pattern and the specific angle from which the photo was taken. Across the internet, many people made humorous posts by comparing the rabbit to wise masters in Kung Fu Panda, old martial arts instructors, and even long-bearded philosophers.
